Dermal Filler Injection Treatment for Your Face

Dermal Filler Injection Treatment for Your Face

Age is a cruel mistress that nobody can avoid. The skin is the most susceptible organ to aging. As we get older, our skin loses some of its collagen and fat reserves. The loss results in wrinkles and saggy skin that lost its elasticity and firmness. Dermal filler injections contain a substance that is naturally produced by the human body. This substance is called Hyaluronic acid, or hyaluronan for short. This type of acid adds volume to the skin texture, assisting the skin surface to plump out wrinkles and aging lines.

Using hyaluronan in dermal filler injections has been common practice for about 4 decades in this industry. Therefore, you can be assured that the treatment is effective and results in smoother, more volumized skin in the treated area. This treatment can also be used in conjunction with Botulinum toxin, also called Botox. The combination procedure is known as a “Liquid Facelift” or an “Injectable Facelift”. Botox is a neurotoxic protein that is used medically to relax muscles and induce flaccid paralysis to ensure that the muscle can enter a completely relaxed state. By using both substances on a treated area, the muscle tissue beneath the skin will relax and be volumized for a rejuvenated and smooth surface appearance.

Hyaluronan is an acid that is naturally produced by the body and distributed widely throughout the connective, epithelial, and neural tissues of the human body. An average 70-kg adult has about 15 g of this acid in their body, of which roughly 5 g will be degraded and synthesized every day. Dermal filler injections will inject this substance at several points around the area being treated, as opposed to Botox that are directly injected into the treated muscle. This type of treatment takes between 15 and 45 minutes, dependent on how many injections are required.

Before dermal filler injection treatment, the intended area will receive an anaesthetic ointment to numb the area. This application happens 15 minutes before the injections are applied. If there is any swelling or bruising that results from the treatment, you can expect it to heal within a couple of days. Temporary filler injections can last between 12 and 18 months, dependent on the type of filler that was used and the area that was injected. This type of treatment can also be used to enhance the volume of lips, apart from smoothing out wrinkles.
