Silhouette®

Cellulite is, to the modern, figure-conscious woman, one of the more difficult problems to treat. This non-invasive system is designed to reduce the appearance of cellulite, improve skin tone and re-contour the body.

How does it work?

Silhouette® utilizes aspiration to suck the skin up between two motorized rollers into a fold or pleat. The two rollers attached to the main treatment head knead this tissue fold. Because the suction level is electronically controlled, the rollers constantly adjust themselves to the thickness of the patient’s skin. As the treatment sessions progress, the skin becomes more supple and elastic, causing the rollers to adapt and reach increasingly deep layers. The treatments are deeply relaxing and de-stressing.

The dimpling effects of cellulite are caused by two factors; the swelling of the fat lobes that lie just beneath the skin, which push the skin up and the retraction of the vertical connective fibres which act as the anchor points and pull the skin down. Silhoutte® improves the circulation by increasing blood and oxygen flow to the cellulite tissues and thereby accelerating the drainage of the stagnant waste products of metabolism via the lymphatic system and the fine blood capillaries. The metabolism of the fat cells is improved, encouraging them to use their contents and thus shrink in size. The suction action of the massage stretches these connective strands, thus smoothing the surface of the skin. As the fibres are stretched, they are stimulated to produce collagen and elastin, which results in an improvement is skin tone. During the treatments, the skin is exfoliated by the kneading and aspiration, thus improving the appearance.

What is Cellulite?

Essentially a feminine phenomenon, cellulite results from a build-up of fat in the adipocytes (subcutaneous fat cells) and the retention of water in the surrounding areas (dermis and hypodermis). As the adipocytes continue to grow, the envelopes containing them lose their shape and pull on their cutaneous anchoring points, giving the skin its “orange peel“ appearance. At this stage, the main problem is that the process is self-sustaining as a result of a reduction of blood circulation, causing in turn stagnation of the metabolic waste, nutritional impoverishment and congestion of the connective tissue, which lose its elasticity and becomes fibrous. This extremely unsightly condition results in cellulite areas that are unresponsive to physical exercise and to even the strictest slimming diets.
